My service days lasted just one year. I saw no action, just a lot of water. I was put in the Navy CB’s. After basic training at Great Lakes, we were sent to a naval base at Newport, Rhode Island. After that I was sent to California and on to Pearl Harbor and then to the Island of Guam. We were training for the invasion of Japan. The date was set, but thank God, the bomb was dropped before that and the rest of my service was spent on Guam. I was shipped home by the way of the Panama Canal.
