I packed parachutes for the 8th Air Force B24 Bomber. On a rainy day in 1944 we had a funeral for a buddy in our barracks. We rode in trucks to the cemetery, north of London. When we got there, German prisoners of war were dressed in raincoats. Military police were on either side of them. There were 45 caskets. As far as you could see, white crosses marked military graves. The chaplain concluded the service with a prayer, and a single bugle played “Taps”.
