I enlisted and served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence in the Pacific Asiatic Theaters, receiving nine medals and eleven stars for nine significant battles and engagements including the attack on Tawara, where our carrier was torpedoed and had to return to the mainland USA for repairs. We then returned and engaged in the final attack on Tokyo.
The sacrifices I made for my country were dutifully given and I consider myself a loyal and patriotic citizen. I am a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post #330 New Haven, Indiana, and a Lifetime Member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post #11314 Huntertown, Indiana.
