ROBERT GLOYD, obituary

ROBERT MOSS GLOYD, 88, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Lutheran Hospital.  Born March 11, 1916, in Perry Township, Allen County, he was the son of OTIS and ARVILLA (MOSS) GLOYD and lived most of his adult life on the Gloyd Homestead, where he farmed and raised his family. 

He graduated from Huntertown High School, was employed by Fort Wayne Newspapers for 35 years, and was a lifetime member of Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church.

                        SAMUEL GLOYD of Massachusetts

                        DENNIS GLOYD (Roxie Gross) of Churubusco

            two daughters

                        SARA (Charles) LIGGETT of Edon, Ohio

                        SHARON (Ronald) HOOT of Fort Wayne

            17 grandchildren

            22 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, EVELYN M. (Pontius) GLOYD;  and a daughter, PAMELA.

Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church, 12707 Tonkel Road, with calling one hour prior to service.  Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb & Sons, Pine Valley Funeral Home.

Burial in Huntertown Cemetery.  Memorials to Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church.

EVLYN M. GLOYD, 79, died Sunday, August 31, 2003, at Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne, she delivered the News-Sentinel for 31 years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church.

E. G. GLOYD, Miller in Early Days of Community, Dies at Kendallville

Kendallville, February 19, EDWIN G. GLOYD, died here early today on the 72^nd anniversary of his birth after an illness of several months.  Born in Allen county, just north of Fort Wayne, he spent his boyhood days there and learned the miller’s trade.  Following the death of his father, he took over the management of the Cedar Creek mill, and successfully operated it for many years.  Twenty-two years ago he sold his interest and moved to Avilla, where he operated the Avilla mills for 5 years.  Seventeen years ago he moved to Kendallville, where he has lived since.  His wife preceded him in death 11 years ago.  Surviving are 3 daughters, all of this city:

Mrs. THURLOW BERHALTER

One son, CHARLES GLOYD, of Okanigan, Washington

The funeral will be held Monday with short services at the McMarrell home at 11 o’clock and the funeral proper at the Union church, Huntington, Rev. F. A. LeMaster, of this city, conducting the services.  Burial at the Union Cemetery.

The Gloyd family was prominent in the early days of the county and Gloyd mills is one of the beautiful spots in the Cedar Creek district, near the county line, where it is hoped some day to establish a state park.   (possibly from a Ft. Wayne newspaper)

GLOYD, FITELLA (FITCH)

Born April 10, 1851;  Died January 8, 1935

Short funeral services for MRS. FITELLA GLOYD, 83, who died at 2:45 o’clock Tuesday morning at her home on the Auburn road, will be held Thursday noon at the residence, and 2 o’clock at Robinson Chapel on the Tonkel road, Rev. J. L. Pusey officiating.  Burial will be in the Huntertown Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Thursday.  D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gloyd died of injuries she received in a fall at her home.  Her hip was fractured in the mishap.  She was the widow of JEROME D. GLOYD, former Allen county commissioner.  She was a member of Robinson Chapel M. E. church.
