WERT, MARGUERETTE

Born January 28, 1894;  Died November 20, 1984

MARGUERETTE L. WERT, 90, died at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday at Miller’s Merry Manor, where she had resided since September 23, 1981. 

A lifetime resident of the area, Mrs. Wert lived at 509 South Walsh street before moving to Miller’s.  She was born January 28, 1894 in Butler Township, the daughter of AMOS and NANCY (HUNTER) FITCH.  Her husband, HARRY WERT, preceded her in death in August, 1956.

Mrs. Wert was a housewife and had also taught kindergarten in South Bend.  She was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, past treasurer of Tri Kappa Sorority and a member of the Mary-Martha Circle.

Mrs. Wert is survived by nieces and nephews.  A brother and two sisters are deceased.

HOUSER, MARIE

Born June 29, 1891;  Died November 20, 1984

MARIE F. HOUSER, 93, formerly of 1251/2 South Randolph street, died Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. in Miller’s Merry Manor.  She had been at the nursing home since November 2. 

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at McKee-Miles Funeral Home, where Eastern Star services will be held at 8 p.m.  Her funeral will be in the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Friday.  Pastor Ronald Bowman will officiate and burial will be in Cedar Chapel Cemetery.  Preferred memorials are to the Garrett United Methodist Church.

Born June 29, 1891, in Butler Township, she was the daughter of AMOS and NANCY (HUNTER) FITCH.  She and ARTHUR HOUSER were married in Garrett on October 26, 1916.  He preceded her in death, May 30, 1955.

Survivors include two daughters:

            MRS. RALPH (JOAN) DOVE of Huntertown

            MRS. VINCENT (ELAIN) KIRBACH, Bay Village, Ohio

            RICHARD HOUSER, of Xenia, Ohio

FITCH, BERNICE

Born July 3, 1897;  Died November 14, 1994

Angola – BERNICE LOUISE (STRAYER) FITCH, 97, died November 14 in Pioneer Nursing Home, Vale, Oregon.  She was born July 3, 1897, in Steuben County to Walter M. and Alice (Sowle) Strayer.

Her youth was spent in Angola, and her family had a cottage on Spring Point, Lake James.  She spent most of her adult life in Huntertown, where she was a homemaker.  In later years she was a resident of Ontario, Oregon.

Her daughter, SUZANNE ENYEART of Ontario, Oregon, said a circle will close when her remains return to Klink Funeral Home in Angola:  Mrs. Fitch’s grandparents lived in that building before it became a funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, ERNEST FITCH.

FITCH, EUNICE L.

Wenatchee – EUNICE L. FITCH, 85, Wenatchee, died Wednesday evening, April 13, 1994 in Colonial Vista Convalescent Center.  She was born September 20, 1908 in Malaga to ELLIOT and MARY (PARSONS) BALCH.  She grew up on the family fruit ranch on the hill above Three Lakes.  She attended school in Malaga and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1925.  She attended Bellingham Normal School for a year and began teaching for a year in Kake, Alaska, in 1926.

She married MERLIN F. FITCH on August 28, 1927, in Anchorage, Alaska.  She then taught four years at the Eklutna Industrial School, a school for Alaskan natives.  She and her family moved back to Washington state in 1934, first to Riverton and then to the Wenatchee Valley in 1935.  The family moved to Okanogan and returned to Wenatchee in 1942.  They moved to Sequim in 1974.  Her husband preceded her in death in 1980, after which she returned to Wenatchee.

Mrs. Fitch was a member of the Central Christian Church;  Native Daughters of Washington Territorial Pioneers;  East Wenatchee Garden Club;  Malaga Homemakers Club; and Astral Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. 

Survivors include two sons:

            ROBERT E., of Kent

            JOHN S., of Nordland

She also was preceded in death by a brother in 1993.  Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors, Wenatchee.

FITCH, MAURICE K. 

Fort Wayne Newspapers…………..death December 9, 1974

Lifelong Allen County resident MAURICE K. FITCH, 73, of Huntertown, died at Parkview Memorial hospital this morning.  The former automobile mechanic retired from Rice Oldsmobile 8 years ago.

Survivors include two sons:

            NOEL B., of Garden Grove, California

GLOYD, FITELLA (FITCH)

Born April 10, 1851;  Died January 8, 1935

Short funeral services for MRS. FITELLA GLOYD, 83, who died at 2:45 o’clock Tuesday morning at her home on the Auburn road, will be held Thursday noon at the residence, and 2 o’clock at Robinson Chapel on the Tonkel road, Rev. J. L. Pusey officiating.  Burial will be in the Huntertown Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Thursday.  D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Gloyd died of injuries she received in a fall at her home.  Her hip was fractured in the mishap.  She was the widow of JEROME D. GLOYD, former Allen county commissioner.  She was a member of Robinson Chapel M. E. church.
