SORDELET OBITUARIES

 

FRANK P. SORDELET, FORMER ASSESSOR, TRUSTEE DIES

 

FRANK P. SORDELET, 78, R.R. 2 Dupont Road, died at 5:30 a.m. today at his residence after an illness of six months.  He had lived all his life on the same farm near St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, of which he was a member.   He was also a member of the church’s Holy Name Society and the Lafayette Legion.

 

Mr. Sordelet was assessor for St. Joe Township eight years, trustee there 8 years and served 8 years as Allen County assessor.  

 

He is survived by his widow, OLYMPIA

Two daughters:

            MRS. ADELINE MARTIN, of Lake George

            MRS. ESTHER MARTIN, Fort Wayne

A brother:

            VICTOR SORDELET, of New Haven

A sister:

            MRS. JOSEPHINE COURDEVEY.

 

The body was taken to D. O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home.

JOSEPH A. SORDELET         (July 18, 1934)

 

JOSEPH A. SORDELET, aged 68, of Fort Wayne Rural Route 2, died Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital after an 18 month illness of complications.   He was a member  of St. Vincent’s Catholic Church at Acadamie.

 

Surviving are Three brothers:

            FRANK P. SORDELATE, of Allen County

            JULIAN SORDELET, of this city

            VICTOR SORDELET, of Perry Township

6 nephews and nieces.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Ankenbruck Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Church, with the Rev. Charles Keyser officiating.   Burial in the Catholic Cemetery here.  The family requested omission of flowers.

MRS. LEANORE L. SORDELET      (Oct. 15, 1955)

 

MRS. LEANORE LOUISE SORDELET, died at 6 p.m. at her home on the Old Auburn Road after an extended illness.   She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Ctholic Church and the Rosary Society.  On February 13, 1955, she and her husband celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

 

The husband survives along with

            HUBERT SORDELET, Sand Point Road

One daughter:

            MRS. JOSEPH CONNETT, of Fort Wayne

A brother:

The body was taken to D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home.   It will be returned to the residence where friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday.

HAROLD SORDELET    (June 18, 1939)

 

FUNERAL FOR BOY DROWNING VICTIM TUESDAY

 

Fellow Bandsmen of Harold Sordelet, 12, to pay Tribute at Rites.

 

With his four fellow trombonists in the Sons of the Legion Band playing a solemn requiem, last rites will be held Tuesday for HAROLD SORDELET, 12, son of MR. AND MRS. ALFRED SORDELET, RR 1 Fort Wayne, who was drowned at 6:30 o'clock Saturday evening in the St. Joseph River at Dill's Grove, one mile south of St. Joe in DeKalb county.

 

Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the home of the parents, seven miles north of the city on U.S. Road 27 and at 9 a.m. at the St. Vincent's Catholic Church at Academie.   The Rev. Charles Keyser will officiate, and interment will take place in the church cemetery.

 

The four boys, who played in the trombone section of the Sons of the Legion Band are:  Donald Nahrwold, Felix Price, Raymond Wyss and James Weaver.   They will play as a brass quartet, a special arrangement of "Near My God to Thee", under the direction of Professor O. E. Ogden, director of the band at the funeral services. 

 

Professor Ogden also announced that both the Sons of the Legion Band and the Veterans of the Foreign Wars Band will go to the Sordelet home in a body this evening to pay tribute to their fellow musician, who had gained great proficiency in music for his age.

 

The Sordelet family had gone to the grove for a picnic Saturday evening, and the father and other members of this family were sitting on the bank of the stream watching Harold and his brother, Roy, 14, play in the shallow water over a sand bar.   Harold suddenly slipped off a step-off into 8 feet of water.   Roy plunged into the deep water trying to save his brother, but was immediately in trouble himself.

 

The father rushed to the rescue of the brothers and after a hard battle succeeded in bringing Roy to the shore.   Harold, however, had gone down and efforts to locate his body were fruitless until after members of the St. Joe Fire Department had searched for nearly an hour.   Artificial respiration was administered unseccessfully.

 

Besides the parents, and the brother who nearly shared his tragic fate, Harold is survived by:
