SLOFFER, FAMILY HISTORY as written by the local family

The Sloffer family has been in the Huntertown area for over 130 years.  Aaron Sloffer I served in the Prussian Army.  He left Wertenberg, Germany, after 1810, along with his wife and son Aaron II.  He applied for citizenship in March 1831, and was granted it in 1838.  They lived in Crise Co., New York, near Buffalo, until after the 1850 census, eventually settling in Eel River Township by the 1860 census.  (I believe that the County in New York was probably Erie County, not Crise.)

Aaron Sloffer II and wife Elizabeth had one daughter and three sons.  All the sons have had descendants in the Huntertown area.  Daughter Elizabeth married George

Heiber.

The oldest son, William, was born in 1839 in New York, and married Rebecca (Miller).  Aaron II married Susanna L. (Miller) (who were sisters), lived in Eel River Township on North County Line Rd., just east of the Sloffer homestead where Betty Merriman now lives.
